In Search of "it"
Since Crowe stated "Here it comes" I convinced a few brave soles to join me in a search for "it". With a solid recon under my belt a few weeks back we headed deep into the purcells to check on snow depths. What did we find? Well winter is up there...way up there, and has just starting to rear her beautiful head. It proved to be an awesome day on snow ( and a lot of ice ) with a couple terrific pitches on smooth wind blown pow over top of firm summer snow. With some hoots and hollars we decended from our high point of 9400' down the glacier. Things started off a little firm, but gradually improved and left us extremely excited for the winter to come. The fact that it is only Oct 18th got driven home though as I got a little carried away with the two pitches of great snow and went crashing into exposed glacial ice leaving my elbow sore, my knee bruised and a little blood on the ice as I skidded to a stop on my face! The next 10 minutes of decent were some of the most challenging/terrifying turns I have completed on windswept blue ice with intermittent snow patches connecting the dots. Was it worth it? well always... Would I rush out again? Maybe after a few more storms.
Cheers to another season!
