Access: Via 4×4/snowmobile.

Getting there via snowmobile: Driving from Radium Hotsprings at the major 4 way intersection head west down a hill embankment beside the mill. Continue across the wetlands and you'll beging climbing the west slopes of the Columbia. When you reach the West Side Road intersection continue straight through on the Horsethief Creek FSR. Just past the 13km sign take a right onto the Horsethief Creek-Forester Creek FSR. You'll reach a water resevoir where you'll most likely need to park. Shortly up the road there is a toll booth where they occassionally collect fees for grooming the trail. Continue up main trail into a meadow at 1880m where a sled cabin is situated. The cabin can be tricky to locate so give yourself lots of time. You'll trend to the right across the meadow crossing below a number of large avalanche paths. Stay low in the trees until a treed slope is reached. There is often a sporty sled track leading up to the cabin. It is recommended if you are unsure where it is and there is no track to skin up to the cabin.

Description: The riding that can be accessed from the Dave White Cabin is phenominal. However it is mainly all very complex terrain with lots of avalanche exposure. Access up onto the Northstar and Catamount Glaciers is a day hike away. There has been a fair bit of access controversy in this area due to the fact that the glaciers are zoned by the BC MoF as non-mechanized touring and heli-skiing only. Many sledders have been rooping up onto the Catamount. This is strongly discouraged for many reasons, mainly respect for those seeking solitude. The riding above the cabin can be rather excellent in the early season, be weary of what is overhead as you climb.

The cabin may only be used in the winter.
Capacity: 4-5 people

Cost: $15/person or $50 for entire cabin.
Reservations: The cabin is maintained by the Columbia Valley Hut Society. Reservations can be made on line at www.cvhsinfo.org .
