Feb 8th- Prairie Hills (Quartz Crk) Slide

Ryan Johannessen submitted these photos of a remote triggered slide in Quartz Creek on Feb. 8th. The slide was triggered from above by a sled on the ridge. Ran on the December 29 surface hoar layer with an average crown depth of 50-80cms. Ryan estimated the slide to be a size 3. Nobody was involved.

The CAA has been rating the danger to be moderate in the Purcells with the caveat that if a slide is triggered it will be large. This is a good scary reminder! View more photos here.

Received this image from Adrian Marcoux yesterday, along with a note to get a snow dance going on SkiingGolden.com! I vaguely remember a day way back in the midst of the 'Novemeber to Remember' when Adrian snapped this shot of Brian Morgan emerging out of the white room sans goggles! This day held so much hope and anticipation for a deep deep winter. Ullr could use some encouragement to get back on track.....start the dance!

Figured we'd share some pre-Olympic news and hype here on SkiingGolden.com. Local Golden resident and athlete Dave Duncan recently secured his spot on the men’s Free Style Skier-cross team to compete in the Vancouver Olympic Games. Today Canada swept the podium at the X Games with Dave taking a silver! Very cool to see someone who has worked so hard get a chance to fulfill their dreams and goals. GO DAVE!
