Rudi's Bowl/ Backside Ozone

Location:  200m North of KHMR boundary
Access: via bootpack
Minimum Time Required: 30-60 minutes
Vertical: 1000ft back to resort boundary
Aspect: North
Avalanche Terrain Rating: Complex

Getting There:
From the top of the Gondola ski down into Crystal Bowl and load the Stairway to Heaven lift. From the top of the lift veer right to where an obvious bootback leaves the resort boundary. Follow the bootpack north towards the 'Whitewall'. If the 'Whitewall' is closed it is a good indication that stability may not warrant venturing out into the slackcountry. From the saddle above 'Feuz Bowl' bootpack/ skin approximately 200m to the obvious summit of Ozone. As you approach the top be very aware of where you step as there are some very large overhung cornices lingering over the chutes into 'Reudi's Bowl'.

The Goods:
There is a multitude of stellar couloirs and faces with spinal features to shred down into Reudi's Bowl. Be aware that there are a couple of couloirs that look good from the top that end in mandatory cliff bands mid-slope. Chose a line that you can safely see top to bottom before commiting to a line which you are not familiar with. Just because there are tracks leading down some of the lines doesn't mean it goes, there are a lot of high caliber riders in Golden putting down bold lines which you may not be up to. You will often see riders booting back up out of lines with frightened looks in their eyes due to following tracks blindly. A solid group can put in up to 4-5 laps on the Backside of Ozone in a day so scope your lines for your next lap.

Once at the bottom of Reudi's Bowl one can chose to climb up the ridge to the south in order to access 'Reudi's South' or the 'Backside of Reudi's' into the Molar Bowl. In order to return to the resort from here ski fall line following a gully down into the trees and trend skiers right back towards the bottom of 'Feuz Bowl' where you will meet the cat-track at G7 corner.
